What is Fairtrade?

 

Fairtrade is a company that trades between countries. Fairtrade also gives farmers a fair days pay which gives them the right to a sustainable living and being able to send their children to school. Fairtrade helps farmers in developing countries and producers get a fair days pay as well. When farmers can sell Fairtrade terms, it provides them with a better deal and improved terms of trade.

 

How Does Fairtrade help farmers? 

 Fairtrade helps farmers by giving them a fair wage. Fairtrade also helps farmers by providing them with new skills such as designing. Fairtrade helps farmers by introducing new people to them and giving them a chance to get to know them and work with them. It can also help the community because it will buy them a motorbike to get families to hospital, get the community a new school and get a school a new classroom. It also helps farmer’s workers get a fair pay because they work hard, as farmers themselves. It helps farmer’s children get an education so they can get a good job when they are older.

 

What does Fairtrade do?

  • Fairtrade pays the farmer a fair price for their products.
  • Over and above the Fairtrade price the Fairtrade price the premium is an additional sum of money, which goes into a communal fund for workers and farmers  to use  as they see fit- to.
  • It can improve their social, economic and environmental condition.
  • Farmers decide what is most important to them; whether this is education, health care, improving their business or vital infrastructure such as roads and bridges for their community.
